PROFILE
I was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from The University of Wisconsin. I have lived on both coasts and since 1988 have made Bellingham, Washington my home.
I consider myself an idea-oriented artist who employs a multi-media approach to arrive at an image or object. At the base of all my work lies a passion for the materials I utilize. Whether working in pigments, collage, wood, fiber or paper, my work relies on a synthesis of these materials to achieve the successful result I seek.
I draw inspiration from many sources. Among them are the art and craft of world cultures. The clarity and earnestness found in this work has been an important influence in the evolution of visual art in the contemporary era. By blending these influences, along with images I collect while travelling and the materials I select, I develop a personal iconography. I usually work in series in which many works are created over a span of months or years and are linked thematically; or in suites where components are created at the same time and in one-at-time concept pieces. My aim in all my work is to capture the spirit of the term "artifact"- an image or object created with skill and to celebrate the process of creating work that gives my soul its voice.
